Observatory Online Co-Creation Workshop

This year we’ve got some new processes and changes on the platform. Last year we started the Participatory Space four months ahead of schedule to cope with the new restrictions resulting from Covid-19. But now we can say that we have since grown out of our initial platform and are on our way to creating a flourishing and sustainable platform and digital community. Thus far we’ve been co-creating in the ‘Observatory Online Co-Creation Workshop’ process, but as we evolve so do our processes. Instead we’ve created three new processes:

• Design and Integration
• Designing a Model for Community Participation
• Co-designing an Impact Lite Crash Course: Europeana Meets inDICEs

The following diagram will serve as a roadmap for the inDICEs Participatory Space in Spring 2021

Design and Integration 

The Design and Integration Process will encapsulate addressing three main objectives: developing the data repository, the CHI self assessment tool, and integrating the visual analytics dashboard with the participatory space. The crux of this process is integrating the various technologies with the needs and experiences of inDICEs cultural heritage online communities. 

Designing a Model for Community Participation

The Designing a Model for Community Participation Process focuses as you might get on the community aspect of the participatory space. The main objectives of this process are: Developing a train the trainers methodology and a governance model. Important to note is that the objective of developing a train the trainers methodology will be supported by the process, Co-designing an Impact Lite Crash Course: Europeana Meets inDICEs. This process will prioritise establishing the principles and ethical compass of inDICes to build a model for accountability. The work within this process is directly linked to deliverable 5.4 to select and analyse participatory approaches and develop a methodological framework to support a model for community participation.

Co-designing an Impact Lite Crash Course: Europeana Meets inDICEs

The Co-designing an Impact Lite Crash Course: Europeana Meets inDICEs actually started back in December with the first meeting happening right before winter holidays. This process has been created to interweave and amplify the work of the Impact Lite Task force and the work within inDICEs that will result in a train the trainers (TTT) methodology. The Impact Lite Task force will be focused on a TTT to support those within and adjacent to the GLAM sector build confidence and expertise both as impact evaluators and as future trainers to impart this knowledge to others. This process is the first CHI community outside of the consortium to join the inDICEs Participatory Space and we are very excited to what the future holds as we move forward.

Interweaving Processes and Assemblies 

Moving forward we are reorienting the relationship between assemblies and processes. Rather than have a co-creation process run in parallel to the assemblies, the assemblies will be woven into the progress of the structures and having a more direct relationship to the project’s tasks and deliverables.

Finally, as you might have noticed in figure above we have let go of the Tech Integration Assembly. While the assembly has disappeared the work has not and will continue off of the platform and on Github where they have developed their own tech roadmap. This move is motivated by the need to provide the most accessible and agile mode for their work to really flourish.
