A participatory process is a sequence of participatory activities (e.g. first filling out a survey, then making proposals, discussing them in face-to-face or virtual meetings, and finally prioritizing them) with the aim of defining and making a decision on a specific topic.

Examples of participatory processes are: a process of electing committee members (where candidatures are first presented, then debated and finally a candidacy is chosen), participatory budgets (where proposals are made, valued economically and voted on with the money available), a strategic planning process, the collaborative drafting of a regulation or norm, the design of an urban space or the production of a public policy plan.

About this process

The scope of this process s to design and integrate the various lines of research and techonologies to optimize user and community experiences on the platform. In parallel to the Observatory community model building this process will generate an atmosphere of collaboration among the different stakeholders (researchers, practitioners and policy-makers). The approach will be structured designing for both the rigorous academic as well as “the curious observer”.

The Design and Integration Process will encapsulate addressing three main objectives: developing the data repository, the CHI self assessment tool, and integrating the visual analytics dashboard with the participatory space. The crux of this process is integrating the various technologies with the needs and experiences of inDICEs cultural heritage online communities.
